New Danish research shows that contrary to popular belief, it is not the amount of work caused by stress. The assumption that an insurmountable amount of work leads to stress and depression, is widely accepted. Now a new study shows performed in cooperation with the Aarhus University Hospital and the National Research Centre for working environment, that this assumption may need to be considered. One of the researchers behind the study, Ph.d. Matias Broedsgaard Grynderup, describes with the help of new research, that “the amount of work in fact not affect has, whether people are depressed. It follows that we can reduce the risk of developing depression by minimizing the workload.
Other factors play a role and it is these areas that you should pay more attention in the future. “The study, according to Videnskab.dk, summarizes these other factors relating to working environment and treatment of the heads. It is not the workload that does to the psyche, but how each employee the boss feel treated. Below that felt, whether the Chief is listening to one and if you can find that all employees are treated equally. The study concludes that the relationship between workload and the sense of the stress and depression is the exact opposite of the previously adopted: “If a high work stress and depression in the minds of many stakeholders go hand and hand, this is not, because a lot of work leads to a higher risk of depression. That our study shows at least, it doesn’t. On the other hand a depression but it could cause that work impossible feel, even if there were not these tasks, which have triggered the depression. “says Matias Broedsgaard Grynderup.
Thus, the focus on leadership and tools should be ensuring a better working climate and a stronger sense of justice between the employees. This is secured, that has a positive effect on the mental health of employees. This attitude supported by DJoFs political labor boss, Lisbeth Kjersgaard. She says it is important “that the focus is set to the leadership, in particular in relation to the recognition. Our investigations show that recognition is essential for enjoyment of the work, motivation, and thus also the prevention of stress and depression. “Therefore executives who want to get stress and poor working climate in the handle in order to increase employee productivity, should focus on these forms of personnel management and training in these areas.
